5 Awesome Ways to Make the Most of your Family Day
My goodness, where does the time go? Family Day is here and we’re so excited to spend quality time with our little kiddos. So can we talk about it for a sec? This awesome holiday is celebrated in some provinces in Canada, and it's not hard to guess what it’s all about. It's about families, people! More specifically about celebrating the importance of our loved ones, and the bonds that keep us together.
It all started back in 1990 when Alberta decided to introduce this day to promote family values, and then other provinces hopped on board. And get this, the first official Family Day here in Ontario was celebrated in 2008! Crazy, right?
So, let's take a moment to appreciate our families, but let's be real, keeping our kids entertained can be a challenge. So, we came up with five awesome ways to make the most of our time together.
First up, plan ahead.
Trust me, this is key. I'm talking about creating a whole schedule of events, activities, and outings that we can do as a family. We should even let our kids have a say in what they want to do. That way, we can make sure we're doing stuff that everyone will love and have a blast doing.
Next, let's get crafty!
Kids love to be creative, so make sure to get some supplies and let their imaginations run wild. You could spend some time making decorations or gifts for your friends and family. Plus, this way we're not only spending quality time together, but we're also nurturing their creativity and imagination. Win-win, right?
Get Outside!
Now, even though it's gonna be cold outside, we should not let that stop us. Family Day is the perfect chance to bundle up and enjoy the fresh winter air. We could take a stroll through a nearby park to take in the beautiful winter scenery. If it’s snowed where you are you can go tobogganing or skating! And of course, don’t forget to bring some hot chocolate or warm cider to keep you toasty and happy along the way.
Be bookworms.
Okay, now I know we all love a good TV binge, but let's take some time to read together. This is a great way to bond with your kids and promote their literacy skills. We should pick up a fun book and snuggle up together, asking questions and sharing our thoughts and feelings about the story. And if the kiddos are feeling independent, we'll let them have their own reading time too.
Be grateful together.
Last but not least, let's practice gratitude. Let’s take some time to talk about the things we're thankful for and encourage our kids to express gratitude for the family and friends in their lives. For bonus marks, you could create a gratitude jar where each family member can write down something they're thankful for and add it to the jar once a day/week/month for the rest of the year and read them back on Family day next year!
So, there you have it folks, our five awesome ways to make the most of your Family Day. Let's put down our devices, turn off the TV, and spend some quality time with our little ones and make this a totally legendary Family day!
